T he Dutch Institute for the Classification of Audiovisual Media enjoys broad support within the audiovisual sector. More than 3,000 companies and organisations are affiliated with NICAM, including: television broadcasters, film- and DVD distributors, video-on-demand (VOD) providers, cable companies, cinemas and retailers.

Most of these organisations and companies are affiliated through a sector organsiation; 77 organisations and companies are directly affiliated with NICAM. All in all, almost the entire Dutch audiovisual sector is affiliated with NICAM.

Television: Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO), Vereniging Commerciële Omroepen Nederland (VCO), Stichting Nederlandse Lokale Publieke Omroepen (NLPO), Stichting Regionale Publieke Omroep (RPO).

Cinemas, film- and DVD distributors: Nederlandse Vereniging van Bioscopen en Filmtheaters (NVBF), Federatie van Distributeurs Nederland (FDN). There are also 11 independent Dutch feature film distributors, 9 foreign feature film distributors and 16 independent DVD distributors who are affiliated with NICAM.

Game distributors: Nederlandse Vereniging van Producenten en Importeurs van beeld- en geluidsdragers Interactief (NVPI Interactief)

Retail: Nederlandse Vereniging van Entertainment Retailers (NVER), Vakcentrum

According to the Media Law, public broadcasters are obligated to join NICAM. This lawful requirement does not apply to film- and DVD distributors. Nevertheless, practically the entire film and DVD sector uses Kijkwijzer. VOD providers, too - including Pathé Thuis and Netflix - have affiliated with NICAM and use Kijkwijzer, even though they are not legally obligated to do so.
